Around 15.5 million women in the UK are at some stage of the menopause transition – that’s almost half of the UK’s female population.
Despite it being something that every woman will experience at some point in her life, the topic of the menopause is still taboo and many people feel ashamed and embarrassed to talk about it. This needs to change.
Co-founders of My Menopause Centre, Helen Normoyle and Dr Clare Spencer recognised the need for an online menopause clinic that gives women evidence-based information, advice and personalised care. They’re on a mission to empower women to take control of their menopause and thrive.
With a brand new business to launch, I helped Helen and Dr Clare with an initial social media strategy, outlining how we could grow a social community from scratch, exploring the different channels that would reach our audience, and the types of content we could publish to engage with them. Together we established a social proposition and came up with some content pillars from which to base all of our content from.
The next phase was an exciting website launch. The My Menopause Centre website is packed with free, evidence-based advice and offers many women comfort in knowing they are not alone through their menopause journey. Collectively, we spent lots of long days (and nights!) getting content into the website, optimising for SEO to make sure we were able to reach the women who need us.
Once the website was launched, it was all systems go with implementing our social media strategy. I worked with the team to assist with content planning, publishing and community management, as well as creating some paid ads to get some initial learnings. We also analysed performance on a weekly basis.
Our core social content is primarily focused on sharing hard-hitting facts and figures about the menopause, as well as sharing evidence-based information and advice around key topics relating to the menopause, such as symptoms, treatment options, HRT and more. We also tap into key awareness days and dates in the diary to ensure our message is being heard loud and clear.
We’ve also been able to shine a spotlight on the wonderful team behind My Menopause Centre, as well as real stories from women in the menopause community.
Since launching in April, we’ve grown the community to just under 2,500 followers across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
In addition to our social community, we’ve been able to grow an email database with thousands of women now joined up.
I’m very excited about this next phase of growth for My Menopause Centre and can’t wait to see what else we have in store!
Here’s what Helen had to say about me:
“Fran is brilliant at social media and an utter pro. She has a breadth of skills, starting with great market and customer insights to inform strategic direction, right through to developing content calendars and operating plans that underpin really strong social campaigns. She writes beautifully, knows how to capture a brand’s tone of voice, is very creative and has great attention to detail. On top of that she’s super easy to work with, great fun and always goes the extra mile! I have no hesitation in recommending Fran.”
